Author Guidelines

Requirements for content, scope and design

  1. Total scope of a scientific article (information about the author (co-authors), article title, abstract, keywords, article text, subordinate bibliographic references, resume, References: list of used sources) should be 10-20 pages.
  2. Correspondence of the article to the journal topic: the journal covers the materials as to solution of conceptual scientific, scientific-methodological and applied problems in the fields of criminology, forensic science, criminalistics, criminal proceedings; forensic sciences; problems of use of special knowledge in the judiciary, administrative and legal foundations of forensic activities; issues of technical support and automation of expert research, use of international experience and cooperation in the fields of criminology, forensic science, criminalistics and forensic sciences.
  3. Article is submitted for publication in Ukrainian, English, French, German and Russian.
  4. Scientific style of the material presentation (accuracy, logic, conciseness, clarity, connectivity, integrity, completeness) and its high scientific level.
  5. Scientific novelty of research results should be characterized by the following features: rationality, validity, authenticity, logical non-contradiction, compliance with fundamental scientific principles.
  6. Text of the article should be printed using the MS word processor (in the doc or docx format); A4 paper size; page orientation: portrait, justified, all side indented: 20 mm; Font: Times New Roman (Font size: 14 pt.); Line spacing: 1.5. Text should not contain hyphens and macros.
  7. Scientific article should contain the following structural elements:

7.1. The Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) code should be left-aligned.

7.2. Information about the publication author (co-authors) should be center-aligned; (First name, Last name in Ukrainian [in the case of providing a scientific article in other languages: English, German, French or Russian], academic degree, academic rank, information about the election as a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, honorary title, position, place of employment, locality, country, Researcher ID, ORCID ID, e-mail address).

7.3. Article title should be in bold, center-aligned, capital letters, without abbreviations. Publication title should reproduce the article content and correspond to assigned task, scientific results and conclusions.

7.4. Normal abstract text should be equal 600-700 characters (in the article language); Abstract should include the following: a) scientific issue delineation; b) purpose; c) research methods (to be indicated if they contain novelty and are important considering the article topic); d) main research results; e) conclusions.

All structural parts of the abstract should start with a paragraph. Titles of annotation’s structural parts except the purpose should not be indicated.

7.5. Keywords should match the content of the article and display the publication topic. Keywords are represented in the nominative case and separated by a comma.

7.6. Scientific article text should contain the following structural elements:

Formulation of Research Problem, its connection with scientific and practical interests (it is necessary to reveal essence and state of the scientific problem in general terms, theoretical, practical significance of a research in connection with scientific and practical tasks, substantiation of the research relevance);

Analysis of recent researches and publications on the selected article topic, outlining the problematic field of the research that article is devoted with obligatory reference to the authors and their works;

- Article purpose (it is necessary to formulate the publication main thesis differing from previously considered research on the chosen topic, the goal should be formed according to problem definition and research analysis in recent years, deepening existing approaches, focusing on the introduced in the scientific circulation terminology, theories, regularities, refinements of earlier known regulations);

Main content presentation with obtained results (in this part of the publication important theoretical provisions and research results, scientific facts, ideas, opinions, patterns, concepts, tendencies of further development of the topic, personal contribution of the author of the research should be disclosed);

Conclusions (main results of performed research scientific novelty, theoretical and practical significance is formulated in this part, in the synthesis form of the publication material in a clear, consistent, logically formulated form according to the stated purpose);

The article text should adhere to general rules of citation and references to used sources and requirements of the National Standard of Ukraine DSTU 8302: 2015: Information and documentation. Bibliographic reference. General Provisions and Rules of Compilation and APA Style that is writing style and format for academic documents such as scholarly journal articles and books used for citing sources within the field of social sciences. (sociology, jurisprudence, psychology, history, etc.).

You should use footnote bibliography in the text of the article.

Footnote bibliography should be placed as a note at the bottom of the page (type page), distinguishing it from the main text with a horizontal line. Footnote bibliography should be associated with the document text using footnotes, which should be given on the top line of type face after corresponding fragment in the text (for example: Text1) and before the Footnote (for example: 1Reference).

Illustrations (tables, diagrams, graphics, schemes, formulas) can be submitted in the text article. Illustrations should correspond to the article text and the text should correspond to illustrations. Illustrations’ titles should be placed after their numbers. If necessary, illustrations can be supplemented by explanatory information (caption) added as separate files to the article if necessary. Illustrations should be designed using separate files in tiff, .pdf, .jpeg of appropriate quality. Resolution should be at least 300. dpi, and the image size is at least 1060 × 1410 pixel. It is not allowed to re-photograph or scan illustrations of published sources. In vector format text must be converted into curves or fonts should be added.

Each table should have a serial number and a subject heading which should be placed symmetrically to the text above. Subject heading and the Table word should be capitalized. Tables should be performed using the Microsoft Word word processor (.rtf or .docx), Point size: 14.

Charts and graphs should be made using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, (.xls) or Microsoft Visio diagramming tool (.vsd). Schemes should be made using Microsoft Visio diagramming tool (doc, docx, rtf, vsd) and should be grouped.

Formulas should be performed using the MS Equation 3.0, Math Type formula editor compatible with MS Office 2003, 2007 or 2010.

7.7. Reference. Headline is placed in the center using normal Font Style without quotation marks. References should be placed after the article text alphabetically. References provide information necessary to find and retrieve any source cited in the document text. Each source cited in research paper should appear in the reference list. Each entry in the reference list should be mentioned in the research paper text.

After each reference it is necessary to indicate in the parentheses the source language of the source, for example: (in Ukrainian) or (in Russian).

Transliteration should be made depending on the source language. Quoted content is alphabetically named by the author's surname (editor/compiler, if there is no author). If the content does not have any author, it should be distributed by the first letter of its title.

If the bibliographic description indicates several research papers by the same author, editor or compiler; the entries are arranged in chronological order by publication year in ascending order.

If the bibliographic description of the source is more than one line; the first line of the description is justified with 1 cm indented without numbering.

For example: Bytiak, Yu.P. (2005). Derzhavna sluzhba v Ukraini: orhanizatsiino-pravovi zasady. Kharkiv: Pravo [in Ukrainian].

7.8. The abstracts of at least 1800 characters in other languages (in English and Russian), apart from the language of the article, should also be added.

The editorial board of the scientific journal «Archives of Criminology and Forensic Sciences» independently translates the abstract into German and French, for those authors (co-authors) of scientific articles that have not submitted scientific articles in these languages.

Abstract should include the following: a) scientific issue delineation; b) purpose; c) research methods (to be indicated if they contain novelty and are important considering the article topic); d) main research results; e) conclusions.

All structural parts of the abstract should start with a paragraph. Titles of annotation’s structural parts except the purpose should not be indicated.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION

  1. Scientific article submitted for publication may not be published in other print (electronic) publications. To be considered by the KhRIFE editorial board it is necessary to send its electronic version to the e-mail address of the collection hniise@hniise.gov.ua (the file name should consist  of the Author(s) (co-authors) Last name and Date sent Editorial Board marked: Article_Ivanov with illustrations (if available), decorated with separate files in the appropriate formats mentioned above (file names must consist of the surname (s) of the author (co-authors) and refer to the Editorial Board marked Illustration_Ivanov).
  2. Author (co-authors) should provide Questionnaire (Appendix 1) the file should consist of the information about the author/co-authors (the file name should consist of the author’s last name (co-authors’ last names) and the sent date with the note: Questionnaire_Ivanov).
  3. Author (co-authors) should submit a qualitative personal color photograph (quality color photographs) of 9 × 12 cm with a resolution not less than 300 dpi in the .jpg or .tiff format. The file name (files) should include author's (co-authors) last name(s) and send to the editor with the note: Photo_Ivanov.
  4. Submitting a scientific article and other materials submitted for publication in the journal Archives of Criminology and Forensic Sciences, the author (co-authors) fully and unconditionally accepts (accepts) the terms of the License Agreement on the official site of KhRIFE http://hniise.gov.ua.

Please, note that it is not necessary for the author (co-authors) to send a Doctor of Law, PhD in Law review who is a specialist in the field of expertise concerning the article topic and a recommendation for publication in the form of an extract from minutes of the meeting of the of the institution higher education institution department (research institute), since each article submitted for publication in the Archives of Criminology and Forensic Sciences scientific journal operates Double blind peer review. This means that the reviewers of the paper won't get to know the identity of the author(s), and the author(s) won't get to know reviewer identity.

Analysis and evaluation of scientific articles, comments and suggestions on their updating and improvement are carried out by peer reviewers.

The author (co-authors) bears the responsibility for the accuracy of the provided content, and the affiliation of the latter to him personally and the translation quality of the quotations from foreign sources.

Content submitted in violation of these requirements are not published.

The Editorial Board has the right to review (Double-Blind Peer Review), edit, reduce and reject articles.

Authors should note that all submitted articles are reviewed before reviewing for the amount of material cited and the presence of plagiarism. Licensing Terms: Authors retain copyright and also grant the Editorial Board the right to publish original scientific articles containing the results of experimental and theoretical research and are not under consideration for publication in other publications.
